When we have total confidence, the human body does things that even we didn't know it could do. Hesitating for even a split second can be the difference between being able to give and achieve your absolute best – or not. Because we at OOP are driven to enable you to perform to your best, have the protection you need to play with total confidence we base all of our products on science, not guesswork.
The O Lab is our in-house test facility that combines the brains of some very clever and dedicated people with technology, curiosity, and a desire to continually improve. It gives us the ability to test products, ideas and materials using the Worlds most advanced impact test equipment.
In the O Lab we test and record the effects of a hockey ball hitting the human body at speeds up to 160kmh (100mph). We measure impacts in three different ways and to gain even more insights we video the impacts at 2000 frames per second.
The data we gather coupled with detailed input from some of the best field players in the world allows us to evaluate and develop materials and products that really work. True Story.
We use an anatomically correct crash test dummy to test all helmets and masks. ‘Noddy’ sits on a spring that’s acts as a neck to simulate the movements of the head on impact. It is fully adjustable so we can accurately and consistently test our 6 standard impact points.
The OLab uses an Air Cannon to ensure we get consistent testing with every shot. The precise ball speed is also captured using light gates. We can fire at speeds in excess of 200km/h, and test various types of balls.
All data is transferred to a powerful computer, simultaneously showing video (recorded at 2000 frames per second) and concussion data.
We use 4 different measures to understand the impact, including a unique measure that mirrors the depth, spread and overall severity of an impact on the body and skin.
No Robots around here! We use clever and dedicated people to test and interpret the data.

IMPACTS
Front Impacts
Tested at 110km/h the frontal test gives us protection data for the nose and eyes. It also shows any transferred force on the touch points of the chin and forehead.
Side Impacts
Tested at 110km/h the side test provides data on protection for the jaw, cheeks and eye sockets.
Temple Impacts
Tested at 110km/h this test provides data on the temple impact. Concussion injuries most frequently occur as a result of temple impact.
